USPS Scam
Just a heads up about attempting to get employment at USPS. About a year ago, my girlfriend found a widely distributed solicitation for employment at the US Postal Service. I called the provided 800 number and spoke to a representative who informed me that if I would have to take a test and if I wanted to take that test, I would have to order the study book for $129.50. <(scam pt1)……
I was assured that once the test was taken and passed, I would get employment and after the first week I would get most of this money back. $99.50 to be exact. (scam pt2)> Please be aware that while actively advertising employment opportunities, USPS was in fact cutting back jobs and making the workers who are left do double duty. Before you take the test, there has to be a job opening. Once there is an opening you can apply for it. (scam pt2)> just because you apply for it does not guarantee you of a chance to take the test. I applied and heard nothing. (scam pt3)> The test is very hard. If you are good at organization and especially memorization – you may do well. If you actually get to take the test, most likely you will not pass it in a high enough bracket to be considered. The 2.5hr multiple choice exam must result in a 70% correct choices to pass, and they suggest that 90% and above only will be considered. Scam pt4; If you don’t pass, you can retake the test…12 months later. How’s our economy doing and where do you think it will be in 12 months? But wait, if you take the test and fail, you get your $99.50 back – only trick is, (scam #5) you’ll have to take the test in the first place. Go back to start, the part after you shell out the $129.99.
So who’s profiting here? The US Postal Service? [wrong] The correct answer is the testing agency. They have a win/win situation going. If they have to give back your $99.50, they still make $30 a head, and you can imagine how many desperate people who want employment that adds up to. But the larger more profitable number is those who don’t get any of their money back, like me. Remember, even if you got a 100% score, that is not a guarantee that you will be employed. I don’t know this for a fact, but I wouldn’t be surprised that all governmental agencies have this company or ones like it ‘weeding’ out losers at a nice fat profit. Like I started out saying… heads up job seekers.
